.HU Domain Registration Process

1. Preparation and Domain Selection

Who can register a .hu domain?

The Hungarian .hu domain name can be registered by almost anyone who is:

• A citizen or legal entity of the European Union, the Council of Europe, the EEA, or EFTA member states, or any country sharing a border with Hungary.
• A natural person holding a permanent or temporary residence permit in Hungary.
• A citizen or legal entity from other countries, provided they are conducting or starting an economic or other activity that justifies the use of a .hu domain name.

2. The Online Registration Procedure

Ordering and Data Submission

1. Order Placement: Start the new .hu domain registration on our website.
2. Data Entry: Provide the necessary owner and contact details. It's crucial that the data of the actual domain name user is provided.
3. Technical Settings: You can usually specify which nameservers (DNS) you wish to use for the domain (this step can be modified later, and we also provide DNS service for free).

Payment

Pay the registration fee, which includes one year of maintenance fees. After the payment the registration process will start.

Data Confirmation (via Email)

After payment and submission of the order, the Hungarian Registry (ISzT) automatically sends one or more confirmation emails to the provided contact address.
❗ IMPORTANT: You must accept the declaration or click the link contained in this email within the specified deadline (usually 30 days). Without this confirmation, the domain will not be registered and will become inactive!

3. Approval and Activation

• The registrar forwards the application to the Registry.
• The application is placed on the list of new domain applications, which initiates an 8-day waiting period (complaint period) during which the registration can still be challenged based on legitimate interests.

Delegation and Use

If no complaint is received during the 8-day waiting period, the Registry delegates the domain name to the applicant. Following this, the domain name becomes usable on the configured nameservers (DNS updates take a few hours, but no more than 1 business days).
