Managing VPS Backups, Restoration, and Deploying from Backups

Our platform provides flexible manual and automatic backup solutions. Backups are stored on a redundant storage cluster in the same data center as the main servers to ensure security and quick recovery times.

1. Creating manual (one-time) backups

To perform a manual backup of your server:

1. Log in to your VPS4You account and navigate to the My Services menu.
2. Click the Manage button next to your VPS.
3. Locate the One time backup section.
4. Select how many days you want to store the backup (from 1 to 180 days). The cost is calculated based on retention days and SSD size, and will be deducted from your account balance.
5. You can optionally enter a custom name to identify the backup.
6. Click the Create VPS backup button. The backup process will begin shortly.

2. Configuring automatic (scheduled) backups

You can schedule recurring backups under the Automatic backups section of the VPS control panel:

• Specify the backup frequency (every 1 to 30 days).
• Select the storage retention period (from 1 to 180 days).
• Choose the start time for the first scheduled backup run.
• Click the Enable automatic backup button. Ensure your account balance covers the backup cost, as automated backups will not run if your balance is insufficient.

3. Restoring backups

We support two restoration methods depending on your target destination:

• Restore to the same VPS: Find the backup in your list and click the Restore to this VPS button. This will delete all current data on the VPS and overwrite it with the backup. The VPS must be idle (no reinstalls or tasks in progress) during restoration.
• Restore to another VPS: If you own multiple VPS services, backups from other services are listed under Backups belonging to other services. You can restore them onto the current VPS, provided the current VPS disk size is equal to or larger than the disk size of the original backup.

4. Deploying a new VPS from a backup

You can easily spin up a new virtual server pre-loaded with your backup:

1. In the backup list (either in the VPS manager or the My backups menu), click the Create new VPS for 1 day button.
2. The new server will be created with the same CPU, RAM, SSD, and Node Group settings.
3. You will pay a 1-day proportional fee of the original service. You can extend the lifetime of this new VPS later.
4. Note: To prevent abuse, there is a limit of 2 new VPS deployments from backup per user within 24 hours.

5. Downloading backups

If you want a local copy of your backup, you can click the Download backup button in the backup list to download the backup file directly to your own machine.

6. Best Practices & Recommendations

• Daily Backups: If you schedule daily backups, store them for at least 2 or 3 days. This ensures that if a problem occurs shortly before a new backup is created, you still have the previous day's clean backup to restore from.
• Multi-day Intervals: If you back up every few days, add 1 or 2 extra days to the retention period (e.g., if backing up every 5 days, retain it for 6 or 7 days) for the same safety reasons.
