Reverse DNS (rDNS) allows associating a hostname with your VPS IP address, which is the opposite of a standard A record lookup. This is especially important for mail servers, as many systems reject emails from IP addresses that do not have a proper PTR record.

Where to configure Reverse DNS

You can set up your Reverse DNS (PTR record) directly from your VPS manager page:

1. Log in to your account and go to Services.
2. Click on your VPS service.
3. Open the VPS Manager.
4. Scroll down to the List of IPs section.
5. Next to each IP address, you will find a text field with the current Reverse DNS value and a Set button.

Prerequisites before setting Reverse DNS

Before saving your custom PTR record, you must first create a DNS A record (for IPv4) or AAAA record (for IPv6) that points your desired hostname to your VPS IP address. The system will verify this automatically.

• For IPv4: The hostname must have an A record resolving to your VPS IPv4 address.
• For IPv6: The hostname must have an AAAA record resolving to your VPS IPv6 address.

If the DNS record does not exist or does not point to your IP, the system will display an error and the PTR record will not be updated.

How to set a custom Reverse DNS

1. Create a DNS A (or AAAA) record for your hostname pointing to your VPS IP address at your DNS provider.
2. Wait for the DNS change to propagate (this can take a few minutes up to 24 hours).
3. Go to your VPS Manager, List of IPs section.
4. Enter the desired hostname (e.g. mail.example.com) in the Reverse DNS field next to your IP address.
5. Click the Set button.

If the verification succeeds, the PTR record will be updated immediately.

How to reset Reverse DNS to default

If you want to revert your PTR record back to the default value (the system-generated hostname), click the Reset reverse address button next to the IP address in the List of IPs section. No DNS changes on your side are required for the reset.

Common issues

• Error: The given hostname is not valid or not resolvable — this means the DNS A/AAAA record either does not exist or does not point to your VPS IP yet. Wait for DNS propagation and try again.
• Changes not taking effect immediately — PTR record updates are applied instantly in our system, but caching at third-party DNS resolvers may delay visibility for up to a few minutes.
